Did you know that most web sites produce ZERO (or close to zero) revenue for the company that they represent.

It is true. Another fact is that on average, only 2% of visitors contact the company after visiting the web site.

These are not very good statistics, are they?

Before you get disillusioned, I will add that there are very good reasons for this, and it doesn’t have to be like this for your company.

I am going to tell you how to create web sites that generate a constant stream of sales leads. Before I do, I am going to profile the average web site, and why it doesn’t generate any sales.

The average web site is usually built to flatter the designer and the company person responsible for creating the web site. It usually has lots of flash / graphics and tells all about “what we do” and or “what we sell”.

In fact, without even seeing a website, I can tell you that there will probably be a menu bar under the top header graphic that contains Home, Products / Services, About Us, Contact Us.

Why are web sites designed like this?

Simple. Because people have been conditioned to think that this is how web sites are supposed to look.

Can I let you in on a secret you may not know?

There are lots of one-page web sites out there that make an incredible amount of money.

That’s right!

No “About Us” or “Contact Us” pages, etc.

Now wait. Before you go and start typing a one-page web site in MS Word™, I should add something.

Just as there is a reason that the average web site doesn’t make money, there is also a reason why these simple web sites DO make money.

Essentially, it is because these companies follow this process:

  • Market Research - check to make sure that there is actually a market for the product / service
  • Competitive Research - check out the competition, similar products / services
  • Website Design - design the web site so it is highly visible, connects with the visitor and compels the visitor to make contact
  • Promote - let people know about the web site using conventional and state-of-art methods
  • Follow Up - implement a system to automatically follow-up with those people that contact you)
